Design (Easy to Handle & to View)
Probes
The Typhur probes are just over 5 inches in length (5.08" (L) × 0.22") have a T shape handle that was nice to be able to insert and pull them out more easily compared to some slimmer more sleek models. I think the length is great for medium to larger cuts of meat such as the turkey but maybe a little too long for something smaller like chicken breasts, salmon filet, or smaller cuts of steak like a filet.
I also like thats the thermometers were labeled 1 & 2 in case you forget which thermometer you put in each meat.
Base
I was impressed with the design of the rose gold base. It has a little kick stand and an easy to read display. There are two sides on the display one each for each probe. You can select to cook in “manual” or “smart” mode that allows you to select your desired temperatures. Manual will let you know when the desired temperature is reached. And the smart mode lets you know when to pull it and let rest until desired temperature is reached.

Ease of Use (Basic or Professional?)
Start up
To get the Typhur Dual up and running all you need to do is plug in the base and make sure you have a full charge. I loved this because some other thermometers I have purchased required batteries that I often don’t have enough of. Which would delay the process. Not this one. I was charged up in the morning and it was ready to roll when I was ready to fire up the smoker.
What I like is that even if you do not want to use the mobile app you can just use the base as your screen. I do like that. Some of the other wireless thermometers all require using the mobile app as your display. Here you can just use the thermometer and watch the temperature on the base. Bonus points.
Mobile App
The mobile app for the Typhur is an additional monitoring feature plus has the ability to select the type of meat, cook, etc that will get you your information on temperatures of when to pull the meat from the heat source.
The mobile app also has some added features such as recipes and cooking articles. These pulled up on the first screen which I kind of thought the probe information would be prevalent.
You will also be able to view the 6 different sensors temperatures from the app. There are two different screens "Basic" and "Professional" mode that you can switch back and forth from.
In Basic Mode you can keep track of the internal, target, and ambient temperatures. Also it will display the estimated remaining time and the duration of the cook. See the screen shot below.
If you click the little swap button it will switch to Professional Mode where you can monitor all 6 sensors individually. Along with the remaining cook time and duration as well.
There is an alarm when there is 5 minutes left which can be edited along with adding other alarms for your preferences.
⭐Ease of Use Rating: 10/10
Performance (Peace of Mind Monitoring but Base Readings May be Confusing)
The Typhur Dual has the ability to monitor and read 5 internal sensors and 1 ambient sensor for more precise cooking. If you are an everyday cook just looking for that final number to hit, then that might not do anything for you. But let’s say you are cooking a prime rib roast where you want the middle to be perfectly cooked to your liking- then this may be the thermometer for you. PLUS being able to monitor two cooks at once is definitely a nice feature.
What I did find confusing was that the base displays the lowest sensor temperature. The alarms were going off before the temperature was where it was supposed to be according to the base. But if you looked in the app, it shows all of the temperatures.
Speed of Readings
As soon as you pull the thermometer from the base, it will give you a reading. And the app will simutanoulsy read the temperature as soon as its pulled too. The temps are quickly displayed as soon as there was a change such as inserting into the meat, if the lid was open on the smoker, and so forth.
As far as the estimated remaining time that seems to vary and take a bit of time to come in which makes sense. And if I did lose signal (when I did the range test) the base had a hard time re-calculating once it was reconnected.
Range
The Typhur Dual boasts that with the base you can stay connected from 3000 feet in open space and up to 700 feet in closed spaces with more power to go through walls of the house, smoker, grill. And with the wifi connection- basically unlimited as long as you have internet connection.
My findings- I did use this several times and went for a walk with the base a couple different directions. I made it about .14 miles before I lost connection (which is about 740 feet). Not quite the 3000 feet.
Inside the house, I moved it around into different rooms and had a pretty stable connection compared to some other thermometer brands when I need to have my phone against the window closest to the smoker.
Yes the mobile app stayed connected via wifi from a long distance when went grocery shopping and went on with my day around town, etc.
⭐ Performance Rating: 8/10
Accuracy (Couldn't get to boiling temps but cooks were on point)
Ice Bath
The very first thing I did was perform an ice bath test on both probes. Each came down to 32 degrees F easily and pretty quickly.
Boiling Water
I also decided to do a boiling water test which took several minutes to get up to temperature and the highest my probes would go was 209 degrees F.
The cook(s)
I was first slightly confused when the alarm was going off to pull the turkey when the display was showing a lower number. Now this was my first time trying this thermometer out and had to do some research to find that in SMART mode on the base, it will alert you when the meat should be removed, when its ready, and when its ready to serve. If you just had it in MANUAL mode, it would alert you when it hits the set temperature.
But I pulled it off and checked it with my trusty thermometer and it was within a few degrees in a few different spots. The turkey was cooked, and resulted in juicy great results.
⭐Accuracy Rating: 9/10
Battery & Charging (No batteries needed)
As I mentioned earlier, the base just needs to be charged (which charges the probes). The set comes with a USB-C cable so all you will need is a block to plug it into. It charges up pretty quickly and I made it through a few cooks before it said that the battery was low on the probes.
What is nice is that if you had a longer cook going like a brisket or pork shoulder and for some reason weren't fully charged, you can always swap to the second probe mid cook.
⭐Battery & charging rating: 10/10
Maintenance (Easy to clean)
These probes are fully waterproof so you can pop it in the dishwasher or just wash by hand with soap and water.
The base should be treated like your phone, just give it a little wipe down with a cloth and you will be all set. Make sure the probe is clean before inserting back into the base.
⭐ Maintenance Rating: 10/10
Value
This thermometer kit is a bit on the high side at $229 (full manufacturers price) although they often seem to run sales (like $30 off or sales if you sign up for their e-mails). They do offer free shipping is the USA which is always a bonus for me. Amazon has this thermometer listed at $229.99
But you do have to remember that you are getting 2 thermometers and the extended connection ability.
Similar products such as the CHEF IQ (with two probes) are listed at $125 but are only operated via an app. Then others I have seen with similar features range from $125- 140.

Yes both through the app and the base.

No, you can view the temperatures via the base without WIFI connection.
How long does the device take to charge?
The base charges up the thermometers in less than 3 hours.
Should You Buy
If you are an avid cook who relies on meat thermometers often, the Typhur Dual Gold set may be for you. Yes it does have higher price point, but you are getting the ability to monitor two cooks at the same time. Also you are getting double the peace of mind of being able to monitor your cooks with the (basically) unlimited range capabilities.
For instance with a pork butt that has cooked to 170° and now I want to wrap it in foil before cooking to a final temp of 203°. Can I leave the probe in the meat wrapped in foil without losing my connection to the base? If the foil blocks the connection to the base, will I lose connection if I remove the probe and then reinsert it through the foil after the meat is wrapped?
Try inserting the probe through the foil and keeping the signal sensor outside. That should solve all the issues!
