These Smoked Cheez Its make the perfect snack any time of the year. Smokey, lightly seasoned with cajun flavors, and easy to make. These little cheesy crackers get even better by tossing them in your smoker or pellet grill.

Smoked Cheez Its

I love Cheez It crackers just the way they are, don't get me wrong. But I think everything tastes better with a little smoke on it. So cheesy crackers tossed in butter, seasoned with a homemade cajun seasoning, and smoked to perfection? Yes please.

These smoked snacks are great for watching the games, tailgating, entertaining, or even to package up and hand out as gifts. You can easily customize with different seasonings or BBQ rubs. I wanted to make a homemade blend (join our mailing list for our blend recipes) and leave out salt so they wouldn't be too salty.

Recipe Rundown

Prep Time:5 minutes
Smoke Time:1 hour 30 minutes
Smoker Temperature:200° F
Wood Pellets:Blend, Hickory, Oak, Pecan
Servings: 15-20

Ingredients Needed:

Smoked cheeze its ingredients
  • Family Size Original Cheez Its- I figured if I am making something with these crackers, go big or go home. Of course you can use a regular sized box for less servings (you will just cut down the butter/seasoning ratio) or a store brand.
  • Butter- I went unsalted in order to not add more salt to the crackers. This helps bind the seasoning to the crackers.
  • Worcestershire Sauce - This sauce adds some depth and tangy flavor to the mixture.
  • Smoked Paprika- For a sweet chili flavor profile and some added color.
  • Oregano- This seasoning is found in many cajun blends.
  • Chili Powder- For a little heat and flavor.
  • Garlic Powder-Garlic is a primary seasoning in cajun spices.
  • Cayenne Powder- For some kick and smokiness. I only used ¼ tsp so that my family would eat the crackers, if you like spice you can up the amount.

How to make these Cajun Seasoned Smoked Cheez Its

Step 1: Make seasoning mixture. In a medium bowl combine the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, oregano, chili powder, garlic powder, and cayenne powder.

Step 2. Mix. Whisk until well combined.

Step 3: Season Crackers. Pour the Cheez-Its on to a large baking sheet or into an aluminum pan. Pour the butter mixture over the Cheez-Its and stir to make sure all of the crackers are coated.

Step 3: Smoke. Transfer out the smoker and smoke at 200 degrees F for 1 ½ hours stirring every 30 minutes.

Step 5: Stir. Stir every 30 minutes to help evenly smoke the crackers.
