Ok real quick. How many knives do you have? Ten? Thirty? Fifty? Chances are, you have a lot of knives, all of them serving a different purpose.

I also have a lot of different knives. Pocket knives of all sizes, fillet knives for fish, skinning knives, and then, of course, all the different knives I use in the kitchen. All these different knives are made to do one thing, cut. And if they’re not sharp they won’t do the job they’re supposed to do in a safe and efficient manner.

One of my biggest pet peeves is trying to trim a brisket or slice steak with a dull knife. I try to keep my knives sharp at all times, and because of the Wicked Edge Precision Sharpener, that job is now much easier.

Are the knives in your kitchen sharp? Here are 4 reasons why all your knives should be sharp, and a great tool I recommend to keep your knives sharp all the time. #knives #kitchentips #knifesharpener #knife

4 Reasons Why It’s Important to Have a Sharp Knife

There are a few major benefits to having a sharp knife.

  1. A sharp knife requires less force to do its job. Less force means you can use the safer slicing technique instead of the stabbing motion employed when a knife is dull.
  2. If you know a knife is sharp, you handle it differently, and with intent. You don’t leave a sharp knife laying around, and when you use it, you have confidence that the knife will do the job it’s intended to do, well.
  3. Dull knives can slip, sharp knives don’t.
  4. Clean cuts – when you try to cut with a dull knife, it creates a rough edge on whatever you are cutting. If you chop vegetables or herbs with a sharp knife, they’ll stay juicy and fresh longer.

I’m sure there are plenty of other reasons to keep your knives sharp, but these are four that are most obvious to me, and most of them are centered around safety.

Hunting, Fishing, and BBQ

Growing up I spent every weekend hunting or fishing in the outdoors of Colorado. Then, as a young adult, I worked as a fishing and waterfowl hunting guide in Alaska. I didn’t do much cooking back then, but I was around knives every day.

Have you ever tried filleting a hundred salmon per day with a dull knife? Yeah… It doesn’t work. I wish I would have had a Wicked Edge Knife Sharpener when I was in Alaska.

A short time after I stopped working in Alaska, I got married. We received some wonderful gifts when we got married, but one of the gifts I cherish the most is the set of kitchen knives my dad made for us. I have always done my best to keep those knives sharp, and my parents are always quick to check the edge on those knives when they come to visit, but I was never able to get them as sharp as they were when the knives were first gifted to us.

With the Wicked Edge Knife Sharpener, it was easy to restore the edge on all of those knives, making them just as sharp as they were on our wedding day.

Wicked Edge Precision Knife Sharpeners – The Perfect Tool to Keep Your Knives Sharp

I recently had the chance to use the WE130 from Wicked Edge. After a little bit of practice on a basic pocket knife, I sharpened every knife in the house.

After using the sharpener my knives are now the sharpest they have ever been. It didn’t take long to put an edge on them, and my daughter loved watching me do it.

Wicked Edge Precision Knife Sharpeners make it easy to get a knife incredibly sharp. The model I have, the WE130, allows you to sharpen a wide variety of blades. You can adjust the sharpening angle from 13 to 35 degrees per side, giving you incredible control.

Most knives will have an angle of 20 degrees or 15 degrees. If you’re not sure of the angle, that’s ok. The manual includes a simple guide showing you exactly how to find the perfect angle to sharpen your knife.

You can mount the WE130 to their aluminum base but they also provide instructions for mounting it to a work station if there’s a place in your shop or garage you’d like to keep the sharpener.
